The information below is intended to clarify some questions you may have regarding baseline drawings recently posted.

Is the Georgia DOT intending to solicit this project as a Public-Private Initiative (PPI)?
Yes. On July 19, 2007, the Department announced its intent to solicit the project through a transportation Public-Private Initiative (PPI). The announcement, found at www.dot.state.ga.us/ppi07/html/comm_awareness/noticeI20.htm, was made to invite public comment at least 30 days prior to any solicitation and to alert potential private partners of the Department's interest in a possible PPI solicitation. It should be noted that no formal decision will be made without opportunity for public comment and without prior announcement that a solicitation may be forthcoming. For general information about Public-Private Initiatives (PPI), please visit www.dot.state.ga.us/ppi07/html/all/home.htm.

How does the possible PPI solicitation affect the progression of this project?
If the solicitation is successful, it envisioned that the PPI process will be integrated seamlessly into the project's ongoing activities. The Department will continue to develop the project by moving through the federally required environmental process, which includes ongoing public involvement, objective assessment of alternatives and evaluation of environmental impacts. Upon completion of the environmental document, a successful public-private partnership should result in the project being delivered more quickly than through traditional processes.

Is this the approved concept for construction?
No. It is a draft concept for review and consideration and serves as a starting point for the development of a managed lanes concept for the corridor.

Will there be more opportunities for public input?
Yes. Additional public comment will be invited in accordance with Georgia DOT's Plan Development Process and the federally required environmental process.
